About Our Rides

AirLine Cycles is proud to host the Stage 1 Cycling Club weekly rides. These rides are a great way to get off your couch and onto a bike! Some rides are social, some competitive, and some are informative. All rides leave you a better cyclist and feeling better about yourself. We truly appreciate all who ride with us and you’ll never be left out or left behind. All rides happen when there is sufficient daylight with good trail conditions. Our rides include singletrack mountain bike rides, gravel rides in the state forest or on the AirLine Trails, as well as epic road rides in the towns of East Hampton, Colchester, East Haddam, Marlborough and Middletown. Route and weather updates can be found on our Facebook page or call 860-365-5496 for an update. See you on the trail!

Thursday Night Mountain Bike Ride

Thursday 6:15 PM

Rides alternate between leaving from AirLine Cycles and Hurd State Park. Demo headlights are usually available – please call ahead to reserve a set. All rides happen when there is sufficient daylight with good trail conditions. Check Facebook or call the shop for ride details!

We typically split into two rides, fast and good-looking. The fast ride is a race-pace type ride for the extra fit folks. The good-looking ride is slightly slower, more social, and definitely more attractive.

Thursday Night Gravel Ride

Thursday 6 PM – 9 PM

Thursday Night Gravel Rides will be a weekly event, weather permitting. We will typically have a single ride of about 12 miles. All rides happen when there is sufficient daylight with good trail conditions. You’ll be happiest on a gravel or cross bike, but could do it on a road bike with wider tires or mountain bike. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the shop. As always, beverages after the ride. Please be self-sufficient with spare tubes, pump, basic knowledge. Shop ambassadors will do their best to keep everyone together and rolling, but some things are outside of our control.

Rides will be approximately 60 minutes in length, and will feature plenty of encouragement and chances to pause, catch your breath, and talk about riding techniques. All rides happen when there is sufficient daylight with good trail conditions.

Rides leave from AirLine Cycles or from Hurd Park’s outer parking lot at designated times.

After the Ride

Pull a stool up to the bar and talk about the local trails, new technology, or bike maintenance. Learn about the great riding in the Salmon River State Forest, Day Pond, Grayville, and Hurd, all within 10 minutes from the shop. And it’s an easy drive to Gay City, Rockland Preserve, Case Mountain, and many other amazing trail systems.

The Airline Trail

The Airline trail is a true treasure for Eastern Connecticut, running from Portland all the way up to Pomfret! The trail has many single track offshoots that contain all the variety the Connecticut woods has to offer. And now, running right through the Village Center is the newly constructed portion paralleling Rt 16 to Portland. This is a great section of the trail for test riding your next bike, so come in and give our new lines of fat tire, cyclocross or full suspension bikes a try.
